Walleeee’s Season Finale Gold Coast Wrap
The Gold Coast street circuit is a very hard circuit to get right. In the Supercar we had a very good weekend there but once again double duty in Porsche. I found it difficult to go from the Volvo back to Porsche rather then the Porsche back to the Volvo.
We still managed to have a solid weekend finishing 5th for the round, this wasn’t what we wanted as we were really hoping to finish the season out with another podium.
We had a couple of things that we had to deal with to get us through. The car was very difficult over the kerbs and the back chicane. As it worked out our target ended up being 3rd in the championship for the year which we achieved.
To finish 3rd against teams and/or drivers that have been running these cars for a number of seasons, both here and overseas and to be one of the three different teams that came 1st, 2nd and 3rd for the year was great. Absolutely very proud of all our guys and the effort that everyone has put in. We basically did everything that we could possibly do to have a shot at the title and we came up third. We are happy with that for our first season in the new 991.
We had a reasonably straight forward year with our preparation, the boys did a great job with the reliability side of the car and I feel like we got on top of the set up side of things 2 to 3 rounds in, which is reasonably quick but it would have been nicer to be quicker again.
Really the turning point for us was half way through the season in Darwin from then onwards we had 12 podiums in 14 to 15 race starts. The last half of the season was the one that made it for us and that was due really nutting out the car and getting what we wanted from it.
That’s my wrap of 2016 season, I am very pleased for everyone within Wall Racing and very happy for my sponsors in Wilson Security, PAYCE and Shannons who enable us to go racing.
Thank you all for a great 2016.
Signing off, Walleeee
