A Year is a Long Time for Tim Brook
At the corresponding AWC Race Tasmania event a year ago, Tim Brook was making his Turtle Wax Trans Am Series debut, but in 2022 he leaves Symmons Plains as the driver to catch.
Following limited running in the off-season for Brook and Wall Racing last season a retirement at the start of the season proved a setback as the team continued to learn. Brook recovered to sixth in Race 2 and third in the finale, so the speed was there providing confidence ahead of 2022.
“It was a polar opposite to last year,” Brook described.
“Back then we didn’t have a huge amount of time with the car in the lead up and it showed. We had dramas last year due to inexperience and from not knowing all the tricks – I don’t think we still know all of them.”
Preparation was key for Brook as he completed a thorough rebuild of his TRADIEPAD Ford Mustang during the off-season where he learnt mechanical and set-up details, which he emphasised was crucial due to the level of competition in the category.
“I did everything I could in the shop to get the result that we had and it’s good when it works out that way,” he said.
“Nobody stands still. That’s the thing with motorsport, everyone’s learning, getting better through set-up with car and how to drive it, everyone’s pushing the envelope.
“Ultimately, the reason I do it is for the competition, the more people there that are knocking on the door of the top five, the harder you have to work.
“Competition is key, it keeps pushing us harder to make us better in the workshop as well as in the driving.
“I think it’s only going to get better. As soon as we start putting on a good show, I’m sure more people will want to be a part of it.”
Another contributing factor to his strong form has been the addition of Paul Forgie in Brook’s corner.
“I love working with Paul and I hope he says the same thing about working with us,” lauded Brook. “We got him on board mid-last year and he’s been chipping away.
“He’s been around forever and knows so much, he’s certainly shortened the learning curve from my end of the car because there is just so much tuning you can do to them.”
The next round of Turtle Wax Trans Am is at in-conjunction with season opener for the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships at Phillip Island on March 18-20.
