TCR Australia Series Reveals Calendar for 2022

Australian Racing Group is pleased to release the 2022 Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series calendar.

Filled with the best racing circuits on the schedule, the calendar offers a terrific variety of fast and flowing venues like Phillip Island, plus other popular venues including Symmons Plains Raceway in Tasmania, Melbourne’s Sandown, the return of Queensland Raceway under its new ownership and two visits to the world-famous Mount Panorama circuit in Bathurst.

The TCR Australia Series will be run over a seven round calendar, highlighted by the confirmation of the date for the Supercheap Auto Bathurst International that will conclude the title fight at Mount Panorama.

The series will kick off with the second-running of Race Tasmania at Symmons Plains Raceway, to be held in February in what will act as the first major circuit race of the 2022 Australian motorsport calendar.

Phillip Island retains its now regular early season position on the schedule, with the third round to be run as the lead support act to the 2022 Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour.

Queensland Raceway returns to the bill, Sandown retains its traditional September round, before a huge grand finale at the inaugural Bathurst International to conclude a much-anticipated series.

The TBA venue will be confirmed in the near future.

The Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series has seen positive growth and stability in its first three years in Australia, despite the border and travel issues that have plagued Australia and the world. The popular turbo-charged touring cars have enjoyed grids of more than 20 cars for the bulk of its short history, and the category is looking forward to a wave of new talent and cars to enter the series in 2022.

QUOTES

Matt Braid,

CEO, Australian Racing Group

“It is a pleasure to release the calendar for TCR in what we are anticipating to be a real break-out year for it,” said Braid.

“The stop/start nature of the past two seasons has been frustrating, but the support and enthusiasm from our great competitors has not waned. If anything, we are going to head into the year with more entrants than we would have expected in the current environment.

“The mix of circuits that we have confirmed is exciting, as it offers great variety for the drivers and teams, and also gives rare access for fans to see an international motorsport formula compete in the southern hemisphere.

“It’s great to lock away the date for the Supercheap Auto Bathurst International. We appreciate the cooperation of the Bathurst Regional Council, as well as the promoters of Challenge Bathurst to facilitate the movement of dates to achieve the November 11-13 date.

“There is just one element of the calendar that needs to be formalised, but we are pleased to lay down what are the foundations of the 2022 season and we can’t wait to see the teams get back to what they love most.”
