Walleee’s words on the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix

Not the round that we were hoping for! Started off the weekend strong in practice, ending practice in P1.

Not a lot of time to turn the car around heading into qualifying. With a few fresh faces coming into the series for the weekend we anticipated a short qualifying session which in a lot of way put us behind as we opted for one set of tyres in the 20 minute qualifying session. I had a lap going but unfortunately got held up by one of our championship contenders which was disappointing and that really put us behind where we should have been. We were then held up again at the end of the session, not ideal and we ended up P7, but felt should have been in the top 3 or 4 at worst.

We were hopeful that we could move our way forward throughout the weekend. Race 1 we moved up 1 position, race 2 moved up another one, to 6th and 5th. Followed by two more 5th places for the weekend.

We opted for a different tyre strategy hopeful that it would come back our way in races 3 and 4, but unfortunately not to be. It really hurt us running the way that we compared to the rest of the field tyre wise.

Overall a very flat weekend, we wanted to be on the podium. We ended up 6th for the round, but still maintaining our 2nd place in the championship and only 34 points of the lead. It’s only the 2nd round but it’s good to be at pointy end. Now we look forward to a break and ironing out a few things that we want to fix before heading to Phillip Island for 2 day test in the lead up to the event in May.

Massive thanks to everyone that makes it possible as always, Wilson Security, PAYCE and Shannons.

A very big thanks to everyone at Wall Racing as well to put in the effort over the weekend as we never gave up, which is always great to see. We wanted to improve the car in our limited running that we had and we spent a lot of time trying to do that and in a lot of cases we did but we could really show our pace after the set backs in qualifying and it’s very hard to pass in a one make formula but let’s move onto Phillip Island and we got some points and bring on the next one.
